The Little Palawan of Tabango Leyte
There are days when all we crave is a quiet escape — somewhere far from the noise, the deadlines, and the constant rush of everyday life. Sometimes, we think paradise requires plane tickets or long, exhausting journeys. But every now and then, we’re reminded that breathtaking places can be closer than we imagine. Tucked away in the peaceful town of Tabango, Leyte, lies a hidden coastal gem waiting to be explored.
From Ormoc City, we traveled for roughly an hour and a half to reach the quiet town of Tabango. The road trip itself was already part of the adventure — scenic views, glimpses of coastal landscapes, and the calming rhythm of the journey building our excitement for what was ahead. There’s something special about traveling to places that aren’t overly commercialized; you feel like you’re about to discover something truly hidden.
From the town proper, it was just a quick ten-minute ride to the jump-off point in Barangay Tugas. The anticipation grew stronger as we got closer. Once we arrived, we were welcomed by a short two-minute walk along a jungle trail. Surrounded by tall trees, breathing in fresh air, and listening to the soothing sounds of nature, it felt like the world was slowly quieting down. Each step along the trail felt like an introduction to something beautiful waiting to unfold.
A breathtaking stretch of white sand mixed with pebbled rocks greeted us, framed by towering rock formations that instantly left us in awe. The dramatic landscape, combined with the crystal-clear waters, gave the place a raw and untouched charm. It felt like discovering a secret paradise — serene, simple, and stunning all at once.
This place is still far from the usual crowd. There are no loud speakers, no chaotic rush, no overwhelming noise — just the gentle sound of waves meeting the shore. Some visitors come here for a refreshing swim, while others bring food and enjoy simple family picnics by the beach. It’s the kind of destination where you can truly slow down. You can lie in a hammock under the shade, share stories with friends, laugh without pressure, and let time pass without constantly checking the clock.
The “Little Palawan” of Barangay Tugas is a reminder that paradise doesn’t always require long flights or expensive trips. Sometimes, it’s just a short journey away, quietly waiting to be discovered right here in Tabango, Leyte.
Adventures are always more meaningful when experienced with someone who makes the journey even more special. To my friend, Mhel, who accompanied me on this trip, thank you for introducing me to this beautiful hidden gem.
